Planning a Mudroom-Laundry Room That Works Hard (and Looks Good Doing It) Riverwoods | Deerfield Area Project
We’re in the middle of designing a custom mudroom-laundry space for a family in the Riverwoods–Deerfield area, and it’s a great reminder that this space always deserves more attention, it’s the workhorse of the home. It’s where real life happens every day and when done right, it can help the entire home feel more calm and organized. Take a peak at the progress photo.
Here are a few of the key areas we focus on when designing a space like this:
Purposeful storage: What needs to be hidden, what needs to be accessible, and what will make life easier every day
Durable, elevated materials: Beautiful finishes that hold up to constant use and still feel intentional
Traffic flow & layout: How people move through the space and how the space supports the way they live
Lighting: Task, ambient, and decorative lighting that makes even laundry feel a little more luxurious
Layered design: Subtle textures, details, and styling that bring warmth to an otherwise functional space
Drop zone: Landing area for bags, keys, shoes, and daily clutter.
Pet zone: A spot for feeding stations, food storage or even a built in bed so the space works for everyone in the family
Every family uses this space differently. That’s why we tailor each one to fit how our clients actually live and not just what looks good in photos.
If you’re planning a remodel or new build in the Riverwoods-Deerfield, or North Shore area, and want a space that works just as hard as it looks good- we’d love to help you get it right.
